Importance of Coral Reefs and Mangroves

Living a  life in the ocean without coral reefs and mangroves is such a hard thing for all the ocean creatures especially the fishes. Normally, coral reefs and mangroves serve as a home for the fishes..

''Coral reefs are found in warm water near the equator. Corals live in warm waters close to the equator.  Each coral animal builds a hard, boxlike capsule around its body from the calcium it removes from seawater. Each capsule is cemented to others to form a colony called a reef.''

If we could only swim in the deeper part of the ocean, we could witness the ocean organisms in the different coral reefs interacting with each other. ''Fish, crabs, sea urchins and many others congregate in reefs. Nutrients, food, carbon dioxide and oxygen are cycled among these organisms, although we can't actually see this happening.''

Aside from coral reefs, mangroves are also important to fishes because mangroves are also places where they can live freely especially the small fishes. ''It offers protected nursery sheltering grounds for marine fishes. Mangroves also conserve water like salt marsh grasses, they excrete salt.''

Coral reefs support the life of different ocean creatures through their rich and abundant assortment of life forms in a tropical setting.

Both coral reefs and mangroves are important in supporting life in the ocean. We could think that they have only simple functions but the truth is they have a big contribution in giving the marine creatures an appropriate and healthy habitat..

Lastly, corals could also be a source of money for the people by designing it and selling it.. Above all, coral reefs and mangroves are useful in both people and marine organisms in different ways..

Effects of Human Activities

All of us know that there were lots of catastrophes and calamities happened in our world. Many lives were killed and many properties were destroyed but still people didn't lose hope. They tried to stand up and create a new a life again. Behind these happenings, there are many explanations and reasons why happened. We people, also have faults why these calamities occurred.
Just like here in the Philippines, Filipino have lots of business that affects the environment. Activities that have bad effects to us especially to the nature like mining minerals, cutting trees, usage of chemicals and the manufacturing companies. These are some of the reasons why we experience climate change, global warming, different kinds of pollution and calamities. So we just can't blame the nature because, also we have our own faults.

One of the known calamities in our country is typhoon. Typhoon causes the land to erode that creates landslides. It's because of the strong winds and rainfalls it brings. Why it happened? Trees are cut down by illegal loggers and its number is rapidly decreasing. That's why there are only few trees that would help sip the water in order to prevent land erosion. The effects? Many lives were killed and lots of were ruined.
Another example is earthquake. Earthquake is the shaking cause by seismic waves that can cause damage buildings or causes buildings to collapse. It also causes landslide that is triggered by earthquakes, liquefaction that can cause other problems as the soil loses its ability to resist shear and flows mud like quick sand and tsunamis which are frequently confused with tidal waves.
These are just some of the effects of human activities that have bad effects to our environment. Hoping that one day, people would realize that it is time to change our bad habits and help nature to be more useful and love our nature as much as we love ourselves.
